Thai Prison and Court COVID-19 Update (July 2021)

As Thailand Bail has been reporting on the COVID-19 situation in Thailand and how it affects the prisons and courts in Thailand, we are now updating the situation as of July 2021. Since many people are affected by the postponements, video conferencing, witness availability, prison visitation, and many other aspects, Thailand Bail’s lawyers and staff would like to provide a clear update on the COVID-19 situation here in Thailand. One of the latest updates that we can share is that a major prison in Bangkok has now re-opened for lawyers’ / solicitors’ visitation. The Bangkok Remand Prison has

officially allowed visitation for attorneys in Bangkok to visit their clients at the Bangkok Remand Prison. This positive update changed at the beginning of this month – July 2021.

Thailand Bail’s lawyers and staff have visited the Bangkok Remand Prison to discuss the cases of some of our clients last week, so we can confirm this with first-hand information. However, it is important to note that visitation for every prisoner is not yet allowed, and there are special requirements in regards to COVID-19 as well as the quarantine period that the prisoner at the Bangkok Remand Prison has been through. For example, if the prisoner is new, it may not yet be possible to visit him at the Bangkok Remand Prison. In addition, it is important to have a signed and certified power of attorney form for the visitation, as well as other supporting documents.

Thailand Bail has prepared all of the necessary forms for lawyer visitation at the Bangkok Remand Prison, so if your friend or family member needs to discuss a case with one of our lawyers, please contact Thailand Bail for further details. As you can see from our website, we pride ourselves in providing lots of free information with which you can use to make a decision when choosing a capable criminal case lawyer in Thailand.

Thailand Bail will return with another COVID-19 update once we have news on one of the other prisons in Bangkok re-opening for visitation.
