Success Story #20: Murder Plot Case Dismissed!

Thailand Bail’s Legal Team Wins Murder-for-Hire Case of Mr. Feng Hao Chang – A Complete Acquittal (Other Defendants Received Prison Sentences of 27 Years and 21 Years)

Thailand Bail is proud to finally be able to announce our major win on Friday, July 25, 2025 of the murder-for-hire case of Mr. Feng Hao Chang. This case was widely covered by international media back in 2023 when Mr. Feng Hao Chang and two Thai ex-Navy SEALS were arrested for plotting the murders of Mr. Feng Hao Chang’s own son, his ex-partner (his son’s mother), and a Thai lawyer representing his son.

Our legal team took over this case from Mr. Feng Hao Chang’s previous legal representation in November 2024. We represented Mr. Feng Hao Chang in the final pre-trial hearing in November 2024 as well as every day of the lengthy 11-day trial spanning from April to June 2025, held at the Criminal Court in Ratchada, Bangkok, Thailand.

This case had all the qualities of a Hollywood movie or Netflix series. Like the series Succession, this case saw Mr. Feng Hao Chang’s children fighting over ownership and control of his lucrative electronics manufacturing firm that supplied major electronics companies around the world. With an estimated value of close to $100 million USD, his business empire was up for play, frequently shifting hands between Mr. Feng Hao Chang and his son from his first marriage on one side and Mr. Feng Hao Chang’s other son (from his second relationship) and this son’s Thai attorney, as well as several enforcers. The murder plot was straight out of CSI or Law & Order, complete with the amateur hitmen who were engaged by one of the Thai ex-Navy SEALS. This ex-Navy SEAL ended up pleading guilty on the first day of trial, and tried to point the blame on the other ex-Navy SEAL and our client, Mr. Feng Hao Chang for plotting the murder. However, due to our extensive preparation and investigation, we were able to successfully defend against this attack of our client.

It should also be noted that one of the defendants had been found guilty in another court in Thailand around 15 years prior, for not only plotting a murder, but also with actually murdering the victim. He was found guilty and convicted to life in prison for that murder. Despite being connected to a convicted murderer, we were still able to win the case!

How Did We Win the case of Mr. Feng Hao Chang?

We usually do not like to give away our strategy on major cases like this one, but we will mention a few key parts of our strategy. First of all, we spent hundreds of hours reviewing the evidence. At first glance, the evidence seemed impossible to beat. It included the following:

  1. Extensive chat records
  2. Hours of audio recordings of phone calls
  3. Hours of video recordings
  4. Automatic weapons, other firearms, and even grenades!
  5. Damning testimony from several witnesses, including the police investigator in this case
  6. Years of bank records and financial transactions
  7. Years of phone records

There is no substitute for putting in the work, and that is what Thailand Bail’s legal team did. Most other law firms in Thailand cannot dedicate the resources necessary to do this, but we made this case our priority and did the right thing by dedicating our resources to it. Our lawyers, paralegals, and case managers all pitched in to listen multiple times to all recordings and transcribe every single word. We then went over these transcripts with our client who was sadly not allowed bail for the entirety of his case. We would bring print-outs of everything to the prison and spent hours reviewing them with Mr. Feng Hao Chang. We also went page-by-page through the bank records and phone records to locate anything that the prosecutor or victim’s lawyer might bring up during the trial. We followed every single lead and idea until we solidified our strategy.

Next, once the strategy was solid, we briefed all witnesses for our side, to make sure they were aligned. Their testimony, lead by our lawyers in court, was excellent.

During trial, we had our entire team of trial lawyers present. Every day, we had a minimum of 3 members of our legal team in court. This allowed us to dynamically tweak our questions and cross-examination approach based on the answers of the witnesses who came to court. That is, if a witness lied about something, and our client could confirm it, we would push on that point to make sure the judges in the case knew the witness was lying. This approach is something that almost no other law firm in Thailand does. Yet, it is so important for every major case we have accepted and won.

The Result

On July 25th, 2025, the judgment was announced as follows:

  1. One defendant who allegedly plotted the murder along with our client was found guilty and received 27 years in prison.
  • Another defendant, who confessed to plotting the murder of these three individuals, was found guilty and sentenced to 21 years in prison. He was the convicted murderer from 15 years ago.
  • Our client, Mr. Feng Hao Chang, was found not guilty and completely acquitted of all charges.

Victory and Freedom!

We attended the court hearing in-person on July 25th, 2025, and were elated to hear the news that our hard work paid off. That evening, we went to the Bangkok Remand Prison, where Mr. Feng Hao Chang had spent the past 20 months of his life, and picked him up there. We have shared a photo below, with some edits made to protect those involved in this high-profile murder plot case. Considering the Bangkok Criminal Court in Ratchada found two defendants guilty of attempting to carry out this murder, we assume that there really was a plot, so we must be careful since there are some dangerous people involved in this case. However, that does not stop out legal team from doing our job – vigorously defending our clients and winning!
