Amnesty for Prisoners in Thailand Announced (July 2021)

After much speculation and rumour, the latest amnesty for prisoners in Thailand has been announced. Coinciding with the birthday of His Majesty, as well as the Asahna Bucha Buddhist holiday, the official announcement has just been made, which is the subject of this Thailand Bail news article. This news will come as a relief to prisoners in Bangkok, Pattaya, Chonburi, Koh Samui, Phuket, and the rest of Thailand. The announcement

pertains to both foreign prisoners in Thailand as well as Thai prisoners in the various Thai prisons and jails around Thailand. This includes Bangkok Remand Prison, Bang Kwang Central Prison, Klong Prem Central Prison, Bam Bat, as well as prisons outside the Bangkok area, such as the Koh Samui Prison, Pattaya Remand Prison (Nong Pla Lai Prison), Chonburi Central Prison, and others.



There are several details in the announcement. Thailand Bail is still reviewing these details, so that we can assess how this affects the remaining sentences of prisoners around Thailand. Some of the details include that those with 1 year or less on their prison sentences will be released. Those who are sick or elderly will be given priority for release under other conditions. Those who have a life sentence will receive a 50-year sentence. There are also details in regards to prisoners in the Thai prisons who have excellent prisoner class, very good prisoner class, and good prisoner class. Some of these prisoners can receive up to a 1/2 reduction in the remaining prison terms in Thai prisons. Others will be released, depending on the details of their prisoner class as well as their remaining sentences.
